Rehearsal

Right now, I asked my friends band to play a couple of songs. We have a line up of what songs to play for the album but we need to record to make a cd. Right now my friend (trombonist), and his band (bass, piano, drums) are now rehearsing the songs we are going to play. Also I need to ask my friend to help us record the songs.

My plan for this weekend

My plan is to create more of a rough draft of my song. Right now I've picked April in Paris which is known for the trombone solo. This song was originally a swing song but I'm going to try to make it into a hip hop/ jazz format. I have a mental image of how this songs is going to work out. This song will at least have about 6 hours just to make a rough draft.

Senior Project Intentions

Right now I have the music I wanted to play. So now I'm going to put it into my own version. Now I'm going to talk to Ms. Chiarella about advisory so I can publicize my project.
I feel like I have concured my goals for March. My goals were to complete some songs. And now I've complete three songs but they still need to be edited. As far as the backwards planning, I feel like I've completed most of my March backwards planning.

Goals...

Right now I figured out what song I could loop for my jazz rap song. I've chosen a classic for the trombone and it's a Count Basie tune. I would loop April In Paris. Also I've looked at a lot of album art to get inspired by it. I've noticed mostly Miles Davis's "Bitches Brew" was one of my favorites. Also there is one of Thelonious Monk I've really adored too. But this'll help me get inspired to create my album cover.

Finding the Right Song to Loop

At this point in time, I'm looking for a featured trombonist I could sample into my hip-hop song. Right now I have just revived my mp3 player and now listening to trombone players. I'm mostly looking to find a modern like feel so I would probably look at trombonists like Steve Turre, Robin Eubanks, Frank Rosolino, and Trombone Shorty. I've found a coulpe of songs but I'm still searching for the one that stands out the most to me.

Trying to Create Some Funk!!!

Right now I'm in the middle of studying the roots of funk. Right now I've learned that mostly a lot of funk requires a guitar playing riffs and the bass being funky. Also I've noticed that a lot the rhythms funk plays, usually has 1/8th notes on the hi-hat and 2 1/8th notes on 2 and 4 of the beats. Also a lot of music including funk usually has a round out like solo showing the end of the form of one of the parts of the chorus.
